How to Make Spiky Hair Bows
Make a spiky ribbon hair bow with a rubber hair band and stiff ribbon. The best ribbon to use is the kind with wires along the edge, but curling ribbon also works. The stiffer ribbon sticks up without any help. If taken care of, the hair bow will last several months. This hair bow works for any type of hair. For thicker hair, use a thicker band. Make the hair bow to match a specific outfit or for general use.
Step 1: Plug in the hot glue gun. Put a paper plate or paper towel under the nozzle to catch drips.
Step 2: Cut a piece of 1/4 inch ribbon about 2 feet long.
Step 3: Put a thin strip of glue over the outside of the rubber hair band. Squeeze another strip of glue on the inside of the hair band.
Step 4: Place one end of the ribbon on the glue. If the ribbon has a shiny side, it needs to face upwards. Wrap the ribbon all the way around the rubber hair band. Glue the end down.
Step 5: Cut 20 6-inch pieces of the 1/2 inch ribbon. Put a small vertical strip of glue at one end of each piece. Wrap the part with the glue around the band. Hold in place for a few seconds to let the glue set up. The other end needs to stand straight up. The end standing up acts as the spike. Repeat with all the pieces. Glue one piece next to the another to make a ring of spiky ribbons. |
