How to Make a fancy Hair Bow

  • Things You'll Need:

    • 7, 6-inch ribbons (1.5 inches in width)
    • Needle
    • Thread
    • Scissors
    • Fabric glue
    • Hair tie or barrette
  • Step1

Lay one ribbon down, and fold it in half.

  • Step 2

Thread your needle (with the same color thread as the middle ribbon), and tie a knot at the end of the thread. Sew through the middle of the ribbon (at the fold), and pull the needle out the back of the ribbon. This is so the thread will be in the middle of the ribbon. Now, you can unfold the ribbon.

  • Step 3

Take two ribbons (one on top of the other), and fold them in half. With the needle attached to the first ribbon, sew through the second set of ribbons at the fold (like in Step 2).

  • Step 4

Repeat Step 3 with the remaining four ribbons, sewing them on in sets of two. When finished, all of the sets of ribbons will be sewn in a pile to the back of the first ribbon.

  • Step 5

Sew a one tiny stitch through the layers of ribbons to ensure that they are properly sewn together and will not come apart.

  • Step 6

Lay your ribbon down on a flat, hard surface. With your hands, begin rotating the ribbons (gently) so that they begin to fan out around the middle ribbon.

  • Step 7

Sew a few general stitches across the middle ribbon to keep your hair bow in that fanned shape. Tie your thread into a knot, and cut the thread with scissors.

  • Step 8

Fold the entire bow in half, lengthwise. Use the thread to wrap around the very middle of the ribbon. Wrap the thread tightly to keep the bow in place. Tie the thread off into a double knot on the underside of the bow. Cut each ribbon end into a "V" to finish off the look.

  • Step 9

Apply a dot of fabric glue on the underside of the bow. Attach a hair tie, barrette or even a bobby pin to the glue. Allow 3 hours for the glue to completely dry.
